Angel B. Perez, Vice President and Dean of Admission and Financial Aid
A native of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Angel has served in education leadership positions on both the east and west coasts of the U.S. He holds degrees from Skidmore College, Columbia University and is completing a PhD at Claremont Graduate University. He travels globally to speak on issues of American education and is passionate about the transformative power of a liberal arts education. Angel teaches in the College Counseling Certification Program of UCLA and recently served as a fellow at the Bowen Institute for Higher Education Policy. Angel was recently awarded an International Educator’s Fulbright to France. His writing is often featured in publications where he tackles issues affecting students in higher education.

Jamila Everett, Director of Admission
Jamila grew up in Rancho Cucamonga, CA and earned her BA in Communication with an emphasis in Media Law & Politics from USC. She received her MA in Communication Management from USC’s Annenberg School of Communication, and went on to earn her EdD at crosstown rival UCLA. After working in the USC Annenberg Admissions Office, Jamila served as the Associate Director of Admissions at the California Institute of Technology where she implemented marketing and outreach strategies for Caltech. Jamila oversees the application process and manages daily operations in the office. When not working, she enjoys reading, creative writing, completing word games and puzzles and going to concerts.

Santiago Ybarra, Associate Director of Admission
Santiago was raised in California’s central coast. After graduating from Watsonville High School he attended Pomona College, earned a degree in psychology and found himself drawn to college admissions. While in college he interned for the Minority Student Action Program and worked as a Senior Interviewer. He was also involved in the 5 College ballroom dance team and volunteered at a local elementary school. He enjoys road trips to national parks, camping, biking and spending time with his dogs. Since joining Pitzer’s internationally minded community in 2010, Santiago has been inspired to visit a greater variety of international locales.

Danny Irving, Assistant Director of Admission
Danny grew up in San Diego, California and attended Francis Parker High School. He is a Pitzer alumnus of the class of 2008 and earned his degrees in Economics and Organizational Studies. While at Pitzer, Danny worked as a student tour guide and an admission fellow. He also spent the summer of 2007 studying abroad in Japan. In his free time Danny enjoys cooking, reading, snow boarding and playing cards.

Owen Wolf, Assistant Director of Admission
Owen grew up in Claremont, California. After graduating from Claremont High School, Owen attended Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, where he majored in English and minored in Medieval and Renaissance Studies. After serving as an admissions counselor at Pitzer for one year, Owen spent six years at the California Institute of Technology, where he worked as an event planner, athletics liaison and marketing coordinator for the Undergraduate Admissions Office. A huge film buff, Owen has a particular fondness for documentaries. A minor league baseball and hockey fan, Owen enjoys racquetball, hiking on the Claremont Wilderness Trail, hanging out in Los Angeles and going to the movies with his wife.

Sarah Fischer, Admission Counselor
Sarah was born and raised in southern New Jersey and attended Moorestown Friends School. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 2013, where she studied English and Russian. While at Bryn Mawr, Sarah worked in the admissions office, serving as an intern in her senior year, played for the Bryn Mawr/Haverford Women’s Rugby team, and studied abroad at University College London. As a recent graduate, Sarah is incredibly excited to say goodbye to the Philadelphia area for now and to join the wonderful, sunny community at Pitzer College. In her free time, Sarah enjoys long-distance running, crosswords, and her extensive horror movie collection.

Mattie Ross, Admission Counselor
Mattie grew up in Maui, Hawaii and attended King Kekaulike High School. She is a Pitzer alumna of the class of 2012 and earned her degree in English and World Literature: Creative Writing with a minor in Spanish. While studying at Pitzer she worked as a student tour guide and was a Resident Assistant for three years. In addition, Mattie studied abroad in León, Spain where she taught English to three young girls. One of her most memorable accomplishments to date has been her work educating low-income preschoolers as a Jumpstart Corps Member in 2012. In her spare time Mattie enjoys traveling around the world and has been to 11 international countries so far. She also loves watching movies, eating Korean food, playing with animals and adventuring with family and friends.

Kazeem Tijani, Senior Admission Counselor
Kazeem was born in Los Angeles, California where he attended the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies (L.A.C.E.S) for high school. He received his BA in Sociology from UC Riverside and then obtained his MS in Educational Counseling from the University of La Verne.Shortly after graduation, Kazeem moved to Houston, Texas where he worked in the Undergraduate Admissions Office at the University of St. Thomas. Though he enjoyed Houston, Kazeem is glad to be back in sunny Southern California. During his free time Kazeem enjoys photography, museums, playing basketball, working out and watching the Los Angeles Lakers.

Gloria Romo, Executive Assistant to the Vice President
Gloria was born in Los Angeles and graduated from South Gate High School. She joined Pitzer in 1999 bringing many years of experience as an executive assistant both in the private sector and in academia. She has also completed relevant coursework at Mt. SAC and Cal Poly Pomona. Gloria loves to travel, read, watch black & white movies, attend musical productions and museums, has a heavy social life with her friends and family (especially with her eight grandchildren), and enjoys extended weekends with her husband to the beach or mountains.
Donna Zinser, Operations Manager
Donna was born in Los Angeles and attended North Hollywood High School. She received her BA in Spanish from UCLA where she was able to spend a summer in Mexico on a study abroad program. She thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be immersed in Mexican social and cultural life and to live with a family there. Donna came to Pitzer in 1986 from the Orange Coast Community College District. Initially she worked in the Office of Student Affairs serving as the Housing Secretary. After a few years, she moved to the Office of Admission where she has been since. Donna is an avid reader who also loves to travel, spend time with her family, and experience new things.
Lesley Malinoski, Secretary
Lesley grew up in Chicago, IL and attended both Hyde Park and South Shore High Schools. She attended Roosevelt University and Chicago College of Commerce where she earned a certificate for court reporting. After 8 years in the legal field, Lesley began the next exciting chapter of life as a full-time mom while volunteering and fund raising. Returning to the work force, she worked at the Claremont Courier and then traveled to Taiwan to work at an American school. After recalling her involvement in the college application process with her two own children, she was drawn to the opportunity to be the first person that many prospective Pitzer students and parents interact with. She continues to enjoy the opportunity to help reduce a bit of the stress that applicants and their families experience during the college search process. After hours, Lesley enjoys interior decorating, gardening, travel and fun with her family.
Lydia Plasencia, Admission Assistant for Data and File Management
Lydia was born and raised in Southern California and graduated from Chaffey High School in Ontario, California. She graduated with her BA from Pitzer College in May 2013 as a New Resource student, with a major in Chicano/a Studies and a minor in Gender & Feminists Studies. Lydia has worked for the Admission Office since 2005. In her free time she enjoys reading, arts and crafts, going to the movies and attending free live music concerts in her community.
Angela Tilley, Day Visit Coordinator
Angela grew up in San Diego, California and attended the Academy of Our Lady of Peace. She holds a BA in Sociology and Women’s Studies from California State University, Dominguez Hills. She is currently pursuing her MA in Applied Women’s Studies and Student Affairs at Claremont Graduate University. Angela enjoys doing activist work, exploring Los Angeles, going to concerts, roller skating and spending time with friends.
