It is my great privilege to share with the Pitzer Community the final outcomes surrounding our historic 50Forward Anniversary Campaign. Concluding this past June after several years of focus, the chart below provides an overview of funds raised in support of our four campaign pillars: Expand Student Aid, Strengthen Academic Programs, Improve Critical Facilities and Increase Annual Support and Alumni Participation.
We celebrate our 7,413 donors who participated in the campaign with 25,706 gifts and pledges totaling $51,269,469—exceeding our $50 million goal. Every gift is deeply appreciated and an achievement of which our entire community should be proud. The amount of money we raised directly affects our academic priorities and our ability to support the dreams and aspirations of our students.
Among our gifts were contributions of more than $5.65 million to provide increased financial aid to bright and aspiring students, exceeding our $3.25 million goal; a $10 million gift launched the Robert Redford Conservancy for Southern California Sustainability, positioning Pitzer as a leader in conservation research and action; more than $9 million was raised to enhance academic programming and propel groundbreaking research; our Annual Fund goal was surpassed by more than $3 million; a mixed use academic/residence hall was named by four trustees; and donors considering their own future as well as the College’s promised more than $5 million in planned gifts and bequests.
Our donors gave in all the ways that are possible—sending us checks, using their credit card online, requesting a matching corporate gift from their company, donating through foundations and donor-advised funds, transferring appreciated stock, establishing an income-producing gift annuity, contributing art as an in-kind donation, remembering us in their will and more. Gifts were designated for today as annual support or for specific needs, or endowed to secure a foundation for the future. The Office of Advancement, as always, embraced best practices in acknowledging these gifts, following our own Gift Acceptance and Accounting Policies established for recording campaign contributions, IRS gift regulations and guidelines of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Annually, the accounting firm Moss Adams LLP audits the College’s financial records to ensure compliance.
We asked our community to share its resources to ensure that Pitzer’s vitality could continue unabated and the College could become even more distinctive in its excellence, and our community said yes. Pitzer College welcomes the continuation of this affirmative answer as we rise into our vibrant future.
