Our new 2017 Pitzer College Brazil Summer Program based in Salvador, Bahia, the center of Afro-Brazilian culture provides an opportunity to explore the history and society of Brazil in a Bahian context, while developing Portuguese skills and gaining an understanding of the life and culture of the region. During this intensive six-week program students take a core course that explores a variety of topics in Salvador, including but not limited to the legacy of colonialism and slavery in Brazil, health care, political structures, women’s issues, and environmental issues. Students also take an intensive Portuguese course, live with a Salvadorean family and participate in a four-week internship in a local non-profit or public school.
