An Anti-Racist Skills Building Workshop

The workshop will focus on developing knowledge and skills to be a white ally/accomplice.

RSVP: capas@pitzer.edu

Facilitated by Dahlia Ferlito and Mikayala Branz of White People 4 Black Lives

Workshop Facilitators:

Dahlia Ferlito is a queer-identified white anti-racist organizer and founding member of White People for Black Lives. Dahlia believes that white people are responsible for ending racism and white supremacy, and to do so, white people must remain connected and organized, and must be willing to challenge white silence about racism; even if it means being unpopular among other white people. Dahlia is committed to ongoing self-education and showing up in ways that support people of color-led movements without reproducing the harm of white supremacy in activist spaces. Their professional background is in Public Health, with a history of managing HIV/STI prevention education programs and substance abuse prevention programs with high risk populations. They hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from Northeastern University and a Master’s in Public Health from California State University, Northridge.

Mikayla Branz graduated from Occidental College where she studied psychology and Spanish. As an undergrad, her research focused on the social psychology of intergroup relations and she co-facilitated an Intergroup Dialogue course on race and ethnicity. Mikayla is now on the steering committee of White People 4 Black Lives and is involved with AWARE-LA (Alliance of White Anti-Racists Everywhere- LA). Mikayla believes that white people have a unique role to play by educating ourselves and taking action to end white supremacy within ourselves, our communities, and the institutions in our society. Currently, Mikayla works as a Family Support Counselor in Los Angeles with families and their babies. She is a Jeremiah Fellow with Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice, and active in IfNotNow, a decentralized movement of young Jews committed to ending the American Jewish community’s support for the occupation of Palestine.

About White People 4 Black Lives: White People 4 Black Lives (WP4BL), is a white anti-racist collective and activist project of the Alliance of White Anti-Racists Everywhere (AWARE-LA) that operates within a national network of white anti-racists, Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ).
