Fall 2016 New Student Mentors
All New Students have attached a letter to their mentees in their bio welcoming them to campus and introducing themselves. Mentors live near their group of mentees in the first-year residence hall and they work in a mentor pair in order to provide help and guidance for their group of 25-30 New Students.
International, Transfer, and New Resources students also have mentors (in Mead/WE Hall/off-campus) that work hard to help orient students to campus.

Name: Benjamin Rigby
Hometown: Santa Ana, CA
Major(s) & Minor: Environmental Analysis
I am at Pitzer because… I am looking to further pursue my interest in the Environmental Analysis arena at a progressive institution in an environment where I feel comfortable with the people around me. Pitzer offers the joy of education with exceptional professors, yet it also provides opportunities in the realms of sports, extracurricular clubs and activities, and meeting awesome new people everyday.
Outside of class I…love working out with the team in both Cross Country and Track. Since third grade, my commitment to running has helped me understand the importance of working together, perseverance and patience. These qualities have enabled me to undertake challenges and assume responsibilities with more comfort and confidence, yet I continually learn new lessons through participation in this sport. I also love multi-day backpacking trips whenever the opportunity arises, reading books about space, and playing bluegrass tunes on the banjo with the 5C Folk Club.
My favorite place in Southern California is… the Anza Borrego desert, specifically Rock House Canyon. This is one of the few places I’ve visited in the states that becomes absolutely silent at night save for the sound of a breeze through the creosote brush. To not hear anything at night is such a foreign experience for me and as a result, this location has become a very special place. It is also quite distanced from sources of light pollution, which makes it an incredible location for me to practice astrophotography. Photographing constellations and galaxies has been a passion of mine since I learned about photography and the rarity of dark night skies makes this too a special occasion for me.
